Biography from Dixon-Hall Fine Art:
| Born in Titusville, PA, Martha Herpst studied at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts and at Grand Central School of Art in New York City.
Among her teachers were Daniel Garber, Roy Nuse, Hugh Breckenridge, Wayman Adams, Edmund Graecen, Harvey Dunn, Georg Lober and Guy Pene Du Bois.
She was a member of the National Art Club, Society of Independent Artists and exhibited at the National Arts Club in New York (1933-72), Butler Art Institute (1938 and 1945), Titusville Women’s Club (1934 and 1935), Society of Independent Artists (1937-40), Ogunquit Art Association and others.
Her work is in the collections of the National Art Club, Titusville Women’s Club, University of Pittsburgh, Titusville, and Gannon College, Erie, Pennsylvania.
Also a noted collector of 18th century furniture, silver, glass, and oriental art, she left her early American glass collection to the Corning Museum and her 18th century miniatures to the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts. |
