| Born in Japan on June 30, 1886. Hibi immigrated to Seattle, WA in 1906. After a few years there, he settled in San Francisco. Beginning in 1919, he studied for 11 years at the CSFA. The 1930s were spent as an art and Japanese language teacher in Hayward, CA. During WWII he was interned in a relocation camp in Utah; after the war he moved to NYC where he died two years later of cancer. Spencer Macky described his work as "...a charming blend of oriental imagery with occidental technique." (showing 500 of 705 characters). |
