| Mildred Welsh Hammond was known for "abstract impressionism". She
was born in Red Oak, Missouri on September 12, 1914, and was interested
in art from her childhood. She studied at the Kansas City Art
Institute and eventually became an instructor in Design.
Her favorite mediums were stone and wood carving, pastel, pen and ink, and lithograph. She also
is known for watercolor and oil painting. Her style can best be described as "abstract impressionism".
Mrs. Hammond's work has been exhibited at the Alden Gallery, the Kansas
City Art Institute, the Denver Gallery, the Nelson Gallery, and the
Midwestern Gallery.
She died in Shawnee Mission, Kansas July 1980.
