Biography from Butler Institute of American Art:
Milton Hirschl, a former Youngstowner, taught art at City College in Los Angeles.  Mr. Hirschl, whose works were on display in Gallery C of the Butler Institute, is a graduate of Ohio State University's school of fine arts.

At one time he operated an art studio and taught art in Youngstown.  He first won recognition for his prints and drawings during World War II while serving with an infantry division.  Displaced persons in German camps and the Italians he saw at Anzio served as rich material sources for most of his sketches which were displayed in exhibitions in Naples and Bagnolia, Italy, Heidelberg, Germany, the Three-Arts Club in Rome and the Librarie Andree Lespiaut in Paris, as well as in Cleveland and Los Angeles Museums.

The young artist continued his studies at Beaux Arts in Paris under the army's educational program, and following his discharge from services, he was offered a scholarship by the French government.  However, he declined the scholarship, deciding to return to this country.

He died December 1, 1999
