This biography from the Archives of AskART:
Norman Hart was born in American Fork, Utah on January 11, 1889.  Hart (né Moses Norman Hart) was encouraged to become an artist by his uncle, John Hafen.  He was inspired to paint early in life by the beauty of the mountains and valleys of Utah.  He settled in southern California in 1917 and built a studio on Mount Baldy.  For 25 years he had a framing-art shop in Long Beach where he made friends of local plein air painters with whom he often joined on painting excursions. Although he studied etching with Mildred Brooks, he appears to have remained a self-taught painter.  He died in San Bernardino, CA on November 12, 1957.
