| Phillip Conrad Hefferton was born in Detroit, Michigan on July 25, 1933. Hefferton studied in his home town at the Society of Arts and Crafts under Sarkis Sarkisian. In 1960 he moved to San Francisco and the next year settled in Los Angeles. In 1962 his work was included in the first museum survey of pop art in America at the Pasadena Museum. He is known for his pop-funk imagery such as banknotes. He died in Laytonville, Mendocino County, CA on April 2, 2008.
