Ralph Himmelberger, Sr. (1887-1951)
Born in 1887, in Reading, Pennsylvania, he showed an early interest in art. At age 13 he was told by his mother that he better get painting out of his head because artists were all tramps and vagrants. Consequently, he became an optometrist but started painting again at the age of 52.
His work was widely exhibited in local and national shows, including the National Academy of Design, Allied Academy, Audubon Artists, St. Louis Museum, (showing 500 of 1173 characters). |
