Born in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania, Robert Hansell established his reputation as a still-life painter, particularly using trompe l'oeil in acrylic and casein to achieve the illusion of cut-out and collage.
Hansell studied at The Cooper Union in New York City where he received his B.F.A. in painting, sculpture and graphics. He then received his M.A. in painting and sculpture from Montclair State University, Upper Montclair, N.J.
