This biography from the Archives of AskART:
Born in San Francisco, CA in 1870. Herold was a studious youth and at 19 taught architectural drawing at Lincoln Evening School. After five years in that capacity, he went to Europe and spent three years working and studying in large cities there. Returning to his native city in 1898, he practiced architecture until the following year when he settled in Sacramento where he remained. Some of his more important commissions in Sacramento were the City Hall, County Court House, County Jail, and Masonic Temple. In his leisure he became a skilled landscape painter. Herold died in Sacramento on April 14, 1926. Exh: Calif. State Fair, 1900; Sacramento Art League, 1912.
