This biography from the Archives of AskART:
A painter and teacher, Sallie Humphreys was a teacher at the Art Students League  of Washington, DC from 1897-1904, and them moved to Delaware Ohio, taking a position with Ohio Wesleyan University.  She was Director and Professor, Department, Fine Arts from 1906-43, and Professor Emeritus from 1943.

Her art training was at Ohio Wesleyan University; Colarossi Academy, Paris; Art Students League, Washington, DC; Art Institute of Chicago; and Fogg Museum of Art at Harvard University.

Among her teachers were Eliot O'Hara, Frank Wilcox, Cart Gaertner, Charles Burchfield, John Carroll, Paul Sample, Aaron Bohrod, and Clarence Carter.

Memberships included the American Federation of Arts; American Association University Professors; College Art Association of America; Columbus Museum of Art Art League; Washington Watercolor Club; Ohio Watercolor Society; Washington Art Club; Cincinnati Women's Art Club.

Solo Exhibition venues were National Gallery of Art; Cincinnati Art Museum; and Smithsonian Institution American Art Museum, 1946-52.

Group Exhibitions included Corcoran Gallery of Art of Art, 1946, 1948, 1949, 1952; Ohio Watercolor Society traveling exhibition, 1941-1943, 1945, 1946, 1948; Cincinnati Women's Art Club, 1941-52; Butler Art Institute, 1942-45; Washington Watercolor Club, 1899, 1946-52;  Mint Museum Art, 1948; Gastonia, North Carolina, 1948, 1953, 1954; Magunsons Gallery, Columbus Museum of Art, Ohio, 1948; Lyon Art Hall, Ohio Wesleyan University, 1947, 1953, 1955, and Ohio Wesleyan Union Building 1956, 1957. 

Awards: Special Alumni award, Ohio Wesleyan University; Adam Poe medal; Founders Award for distinguished service in the field of Fine Arts to Ohio Wesleyan University.
