| | Samuel Lightner Hyman was born in Honolulu, HI on Sept. 15, 1885. While in San Francisco in 1902-04, Hyman studied at the Mark Hopkins Art Institute. After obtaining degrees at UC Berkeley and Columbia University, he further studied in Paris at Ecole des Beaux Arts.
