Born in 1953 in the English pottery-manufacturing town of Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire, Frederick Phillips descends from an artistic family background which includes the distinguished Victorian artist, Francis W. Topham (1808-1877). Influenced by Topham's paintings, Phillips became an accomplished watercolorist by the age of twelve.
Awarded a scholarship at age seventeen, Phillips began studying at Burslem College of Art. Here he encountered the work of the Surrealist artist (showing 500 of 1722 characters). |
