| A long-time cartoonist for "The New Yorker" magazine, Syd Hoff was known to children as the author of "Sammy the Seal" and "Danny and the Dinosaur". He was born in the Bronx of New York City and began the "Danny and the Dinosaur" trilogy of books in 1958. They became part of the "I Can Read" series, books to help beginning readers.
