Born in Hastings, England on April 29, 1865, Thomas Harmer was a plumber by trade but became noted as a landscape painter, especially in Washington state where he spent much of his career.
He studied at the
Cincinnati Art Academy with Frank Duveneck and Henry Meakin, and was active in Milwaukee
before moving to Washington where he was active in Tacoma by 1916 and Seattle in the late 1920s. He was also in California in 1928, where he exhibited with the Oakland Art League.
