This biography from the Archives of AskART:
Born in San Francisco, CA on April 30, 1871, the son of landscape painter Thomas Hill. As a painter the younger Hill was self-taught except for lessons he received from his father. Confusion between the two painters led to him being called Thomas Hill Jr. Early in life he married Meg O'Conner, divorced her, and wed her sister Catherine. Hill died of tuberculosis in Oakland, CA on April 11, 1922. His few extant paintings are mostly landscapes of northern California and still lifes.
