| Born in San Francisco, CA on April 30, 1871, the son of landscape painter Thomas Hill. As a painter the younger Hill was self-taught except for lessons he received from his father. Confusion between the two painters led to him being called Thomas Hill Jr. Early in life he married Meg O'Conner, divorced her, and wed her sister Catherine. Hill died of tuberculosis in Oakland, CA on April 11, 1922.
