Biography from Brandon Michael Fine Art:
Artist Statement:

If you stood in front of the house where I grew up, you could throw a rock in three directions and hit corn.  I was born and raised in a small town in Ohio, where the countryside was dominated by corn fields, pig farms and dairy operations.  One of my best friends in high school lived on a pig farm.

There was plenty of beautiful open space as soon as you left the town limits, and it was all agricultural land -- oceans of corn punctuated with barns and farm houses, sprinkled with hogs and dairly cattle.  This instilled in me a deep appreciation for farming, and I think explains why years later, I am drawn to scenes that include those elements.

I fled small town Ohio to attend the Cooper Union School of Art in New York City. After graduation I attended Yale’s summer program in Brissago, Switzerland, then continued to travel around Europe for 5 months before returning to New York.  I worked at several design firms in New York, living there for a total of 11 years before moving to San Francisco in 1992.

I now live in the small town of Fairfax and as I travel the back roads of the Bay Area, I’m in awe of the spectacular beauty and undisturbed quality of the landscape here. Much of this rural land remains agricultural, which has helped to preserve its’ quality, history and natural beauty.

I occasionally paint on the ragged edge of urban areas, drawn to the geometric elements and planes of light, and the everpresent abandoned vehicles, but I’m a ruralist at heart.

Biography from William Lester Gallery:
Timothy Horn is a gifted artist who captures on his canvases a lovely clarity of air, light and mood in the often humble scenes he paints.  Almost all his work is done on location, in the outdoors or “plein air”.  He finds painting on location to be endlessly challenging, yet the only way to really get a strong sense of energy and freshness into a painting. He generally spends anywhere from 1 to 3 sessions on a painting, sometimes doing small touch-ups back in the studio. He has become one of California's outstanding landscape painters and a favorite at the William Lester Gallery.

Throughout his career as a designer, Tim  has always kept one foot firmly planted in extra curricular, fine art endeavors, including black and white medium format portraiture, furniture making and design, and making clocks from salvaged materials.

Tim Horn graduated from the Cooper Union School of Art in New York City in 1984, where his focus was primarily graphic design. After school he worked at several design firms in the city before moving to San Francisco in 1992. Tim lives in Fairfax, California with his wife and 2 young sons, and paints all over Marin County and beyond.
