Described as a "modern primitive" with a Pointilliest style, Thorvald
Hoyer did painting as a hobby while making money at menial jobs to
support his Hungarian wife, Regina Dicker, and his stepdaughter.
In fact, the only time he made money from his artwork was during the
1930s when he participated in the Federal Art Project, a division of
the WPA (Works Progress Administration).
His early work was exhibited in Chicago in 1944 in the galleries of
Marshall Field & Company (showing 500 of 1551 characters). |
