|
| The Swiss-born Philadelphia artist, Ulrich Augustus (U.A.) Hoegger (1844-1908), was best known for his painting of a burned-out music studio which he named "Verstummt." In a prophetic and ironically tragic event, the painting itself was first partially destroyed by fire in the artist's studio, and later totally destroyed in a fire that also claimed the life of the artist himself. Fortunately, a portion of the painting has been preserved in the form of a black and white engraving made soon after (showing 500 of 6559 characters). |
