| Architect, painter, illustrator. Born in Prussia in 1834. Hoffman's early life and education remain unknown. He first appeared in San Francisco in 1853 as an artist for local wood engravers. His 1856 view of Sacramento was published by the Britton & Rey Lithographers and a view of San Francisco was published by Hutchings & Rosenfeld in 1858. His illustrations also appeared in Hutchings Illustrated California Magazine. Active as an architect in San Jose during 1870-75, Hoffman then returned to Sa (showing 500 of 812 characters). |
