| Born in Hopkington, NH on Nov. 2, 1826. Herrick worked in Manchester, NH during 1846-47. Joining the Gold Rush, he left Boston on the Westward Ho and sailed to San Francisco in 1853 where he remained. During the 1850s his engravings appeared in Hutching's California Magazine; after joining the staff of the Alta California, he became editor in 1855 and later worked as a staff artist on the Evening Bulletin. Herrick soon became one of the leading businessmen in the city with interests in real (showing 500 of 1265 characters). |
