| | Born in Nottingham, England in 1833. Hind studied painting in London before immigrating to Toronto in 1852. While in California in 1862-63, he painted California Gold Miners in a Saloon. This was on the cover of American West magazine in May 1971 and is now in the Oakland Museum.
