| From Indiana, William Hamilton moved to Los Angeles in 1915, and attended the Clay School of Art, Throop Institute, and had private lessons with Edgar Payne. In the 1930s, he sold his works, mostly landscapes, through the Ainslie Gallery in Los Angeles. He was a member of the California Art Club, the San Fernando Artists Guild, and Painters and Sculptors of Los Angeles. He often painted with Gray Bartlett.
