William Hookway was born June 9, 1917, in Cleveland, Ohio. At that time his parents were actually living in Holbrook, Arizona where his father worked for the Santa Fe Railroad. Hookway lived in Holbrook until 1939 when he entered the Chicago Art Institute. During his studies there he created many cartoons for the Arizona Highways magazine.
In 1943, Hookway joined the army and served in the Pacific theater until the end of the war. While in the army, he drew (showing 500 of 2025 characters). |
