The following is from the artist, whose primary studio is in Ligonier, Pennsylvania. His website is

William M. Hoffman, Jr., Professor Emeritus, Rutgers University-Camden, earned a B.F.A. (1962) from the University of Pennsylvania through its coordinated program with the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts where he won a prestigious Cresson Traveling Scholarship. His M.F.A. (1967) was earned at the Tyler School of Art of Temple University.

Hoffman was born in western Pennsylvania and grew up in Latrobe, PA. Influenced by painters Raymond Simboli of Pittsburgh and Francis Speight in Philadelphia, Hoffman has made a career of depicting street scenes in Philadelphia and its suburbs, including Camden, New Jersey.  Also included in his oeuvre are portraits and figure compositions as well as landscapes painted in New England, New Jersey and Pennsylvania.

In 2000-01, Hoffman exhibited over 70 works painted over the course of 30 years depicting Camden, New Jersey in four different, overlapping venues; and published a book called Camden: Historical Impressions which contains over 36 color reproductions of the major works in this series. cHe received two Visual Arts Fellowship Grants from the New Jersey State Council on the Arts in 1980 and 1984 to pursue this project.
