| | Born in Russia on Aug. 28, 1918. The Ilyins moved to San Francisco in 1923. Boris published a novel while a student at Stanford University and later taught creative writing there and at Pomona College. He then spent many years in intelligence and in the U.S. Foreign Service. He began painting at age seven and later studied with his cousin Peter Ilyin and at the CGA. Starting with portraiture, he soon shifted his interest to California landscapes. Ilyin is now a resident of San Rafael, CA.
