This biography from the Archives of AskART:
Born in Cleveland, OH on Oct. 7, 1884. Izant started his business career in his native city as architect and engineer. From 1916-23 he was works manager of Corning Glass Works in Corning, NY. He settled in Los Angeles in 1923 and became general manager of the A. J. Bayer Company. He cast the original Academy Award “Oscar” before establishing his own metal manufacturing company in 1939. His company produced the beautiful metal work on the Doheny Memorial Library and the Hancock Memorial at USC, the spun-stainless steel and glass fountain at Santa Anita Race Track, and the bronze work in the Los Angeles Times Bldg. Early in his career he painted landscapes, architectural subjects, and portraits in oil and later took up drypoint etching which he continued until the end of his days. Izant died in Whittier, CA on April 20, 1949. Member: Painters & Sculptors of LA (pres. 1935); SWA; Calif. Society of Etchers; Calif. PM Society. Exh: Painters & Sculptors of LA, 1935-43; Calif.
