This biography from the Archives of AskART:
| The following is from Patricia Barrington, great niece of the artist:
Elsie Caron Ives was born in Windsor to Francois Caron, the first magistrate of Windsor. Elsie Ives studied art in Boston and then went to Paris in the 1880's where she met Percy Ives. They were married in Windsor, and she exhibited in the Detroit Museum of Arts (1891), the Art Club of Detroit (1895), and the Detroit Artists Association (1896). The couple then returned to Paris in the 1890's, where she had a son.
They returned to Detroit in the early 1900's, but she ceased showing her work and devoted herself to Percy's career of portraiture. He became very well- known.
