This biography from the Archives of AskART:
Born in Ufa, Russia on Oct. 28, 1894. As a child Nadine began painting in the family garden and was encouraged by her parents to pursue an art career. After high school she moved to Petrograd for art training at the Imperial Academy of Art under Nicholas Roerich. Upon graduating from that school with honors in 1917, she married Peter Ilyin. Due to the revolution they left Russia in 1918 and lived in Japan for four years. While there, she received a mural commission for the Russian Church at Toyohashi. In 1922 she and her husband sailed for California and settled in San Francisco. During the 1930s she taught art at the Kennedy School for Girls and for many years ran the art gallery at the City of Paris department store. Her painting forte was still lifes. Mrs. Ilyin died in San Francisco on Jan. 31, 1977. Exh: City of Paris, 1924; Bay Region AA; Calif. State Fairs; CPLH, 1945.
