A portrait painter, he was born in France and studied at the Ecole des Beaux- Arts under Delaunay and Gustave Moreau and then spent two years in Spain. In 1897, he emigrated to the United States, settling in New York City where he became an associate of the National Academy of Design and a member of the Society of American Artists.
