The following information was submitted by Robert Blanchard:

Annie Sarah Johnson (1853-1937) was largely introduced to the public in January 1986 in an issue of Art and Antiques Magazine (pgs 46-53). The article was entitled “Discovering Annie Johnson” written by the famous novelist Joyce Carol Oates. Ms. Johnson’s works have been exhibited to the public five times since the 1970’s. Prior to this period, she was completely unknown until Bruce Blanchard ( a New Haven businessman) discovered her works in a portfolio at a Connecticut estate sale.

 In 1991, the Abbeville Press, featured a portrait of Ms. Johnson’s work in their  1991 Women Artists Engagement Book and Calendar, their 1991 American Watercolors Engagement Book and Calendar and their 1991 American Water Colors Wall Calendar.
 
Ms. Johnson is also mentioned as an example of underestimated women artists of her time in the SAT practice questions.
