Barry Johnston is best known for his imaginative realism and his influence on many contemporary sculptors in freeing the sculptural figure from gravity. Born and raised in Alabama, he began drawing and sculpting the human figure as a young child, dissected animals to understand anatomy, studied classical piano, and visited numerous museums throughout his childhood.
