This biography from the Archives of AskART:
| Born in Chatham, England, Charles Jefferys became a well-known painter of military genre in Canada, having moved to Toronto in 1881.
The subject matter for which he was most associated began as an assignment during World War I. He was unable to go overseas, so he was commissioned by the Canadian War Records department to paint the soldiers training at Camp Petawawa and at Niagara.
Following the end of his commission, he was an instructor at the University of Toronto. After his retirement in 1939, he continued to produce illustrations and murals. |
