New Mexico painter Douglas Johnson prefers to live, as much as possible, the way of life led by the prehistoric Pueblo Indians during their Pueblo III, or Classic, Period, which began around A.D. 1050 and lasted until about the end of the 13th century. He is especially interested in that period in Chaco Canyon and in Mesa Verde, and besides his manner of living, it has been an underlying factor for his art.
Johnson was born in Portland, Oregon in 1946. He moved in his earlier years (showing 500 of 1245 characters). |
