Egbertus Antonie Jansen was a painter and drawing master; he graduated cum laude from the Rotterdam Artschool, which he attended at the same time as Kees van Dongen.
Living most of his life in Gorinchem, Holland, he became well-known and had several
exhibitions. Before the Second World War many of his oil-painted
'Dutch Old Masters' were shipped by the Holland-America Line to the
United States.
Janse died in 1957 in Mannheim, Germany, while on a trip that was to take him to Budapest.
