Born in Roskilde, Denmark, Eljer Jorgensen was an active portrait and landscape painter in San Francisco and Oakland in the 1870s. He painted numerous views of the Bay area, and exhibited his work with the San Francisco Art Association.
In 1875, the year before he died, he vacationed in Hawaii and did scenery paintings around Honolulu.
He signed his paintings Chris Jorgensen, but should not be confused with Christian Jorgensen who lived from 1859 to 1935.
