|  Born in Birmingham, England in 1835. A member of the Society of British Artists, Johnstone exhibited at the Royal Academy and was well known in his native land. After a trip to Australia, he lived in San Francisco in 1877-1890s. He died in London in 1907. Exh: Morris Schwab Gallery (SF), 1879; Mechanics' Inst. (SF), 1880-82; Calif. State Fair, 1881.
