Biography from AskART:
| Portrait painter, Horace Chauncey Johnson studied in Hartford with Alexander Hamilton Emmons; in New York City with Samuel F.B. Morse; at the National Academy; and from 1856 to 1858 with William Page in Rome, Italy. After his return from Italy, he settled in Waterbury, Connecticut, where he was active as late as 1886.
