This biography from the Archives of AskART:
Born in Dutchess County, New York, she was a floral still life and china painter and a long-time companion of artist Josephine Culbertson. She attended the Parker School in Boston and lived with the Culbertson family.

The two women moved to Carmel, California in 1905 and became major figures in art circles there. They built a studio called "Gray Gables," which became a gathering place for artists and literary figures. She was president of the board of the Carmel Free Library and taught at the Carmel Boys Club.
