Obituary. Boston Herald, June 14, 2011

JONES John B., 71, of Brooksby Village, Peabody, formerly of Danvers, beloved husband of Phyllis (Penley) Jones, died Monday morning at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers.  Born in Boston, he was the son of the late John B. and Evelyn (Bowler) Jones.  He was raised and educated in Charlestown and was a graduate of Dom Bosco High School and the School at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston.

An honorably discharged veteran, Mr. Jones served his country as a member of the United States Airforce. Mr. Jones had been employed by the General Electric Company as a draftsman for 15 years.  More recently, John was currently the co-proprietor of the Fine Arts of Rockport Gallery.  A talented and passionate artist, John shared his love of watercolors with others through his home studio, The Jack Jones Studio on Maple Street in Danvers, where he taught many the fine art of painting.  His marine art is well known throughout the north shore for its beauty.  John’s true passion in life was his art.  He and his beloved wife traveled to many different parts of the United States and Europe to paint.

An accomplished artist, John was a recipient of the Copley Artist Status, the Grumbacher Gold Medal and the Hudson Valley Gold Medal Award.  In addition to his loving wife, John is survived by Phyllis’s son Warren E. Lapham of Durham, NC, his granddaughter, Erin Leigh Lapham of Chicago, IL, and his Aunt Frances Connor of Quincy and several nieces and nephews.
