Biography from Altermann Galleries and Auctioneers, III:
John Jarvis
(b. 1946)

John Brent Jarvis was born and lives in American Fork, Utah in 1946. A traditional painter of landscapes and figures, Jarvis prefers to work in gouache and watercolor, using color rather than detail to lend his works an aura of reality.

Receiving an art scholarship to Snow College, Jarvis earned an AS in 1965; he then earned a BS in fishery and biology, with a minor in art, from Utah State University in 1971. He enrolled in Brigham Young University intending to earn an MFA, but did not complete his degree, due to the success of his painting career.

Jarvis has been inspired by the technique of Andrew Wyeth and by his love of nature and outdoor activities. His work can be found in private and public collections, including the permanent collection of the Springville Museum.
