| | Born in Milwaukee, WI on Dec. 31, 1882. Janes began his art career in 1894 as an apprentice to Chicago engraver, Julius H. Ahrman. At age 15 he was a skilled printer. He moved to Alhambra, CA in 1924 and set up a 150-year-old hand press on which he produced soft-point etchings of animals, figures, and ships. He was a resident there until his death on Oct. 23, 1975.
