This biography from the Archives of AskART:
The following is submitted by Susan O'Carroll, daughter of the artist:

John H. Jones was born April 26, 1917 in Waukesha, Wisconsin and lived in Florida before moving to California at the age of ten. A semi-professional dancer in his youth, he has a Bachelor's in Education and a Master's in Fine Art from UCLA, where he was a founding member of the Theater Arts Department (now known as the UCLA School of Theater, Motion Pictures and Television). He taught costume and set design and directed numerous dance and musical productions during his forty years as a member of the UCLA faculty. In addition, he taught acting at the Egyptian Government Film Academy in Cairo for two years and directed five USO tours of musical shows, which traveled to American military bases in the Pacific and Germany. He has traveled extensively throughout the world, pursuing his interests in anthropology and archaeology, which along with his interest in movement, are reflected in his artistic works.

During his time in residence at UCLA, John H. Jones's experiments in fine art were focused on mixed-media works using resin. In approximately 1995, he returned to working in clay, focusing on the figurative sculpture for which he has become known. As noted in the program for the Twenty-Fifth Annual UCLA Emeriti Arts Exhibit in which he was the featured artist: "John Jones's sculptures reflect his life as a teacher of costume, set design and theatrical production." His "training in dance and performance, his travels and interests in anthropology and archaeology add a sense of mythic and cultural mystery to his dynamic bronzes." "Whether abstract or representational, these sculptures refer to the human form and its moods: playful, ambitious, reverential, celebratory, exultant and always theatrical."

In June, 2001, Jones was in the Edenhurst Gallery Show titled "Second Annual California Spring Salon".
