| | Born in West Virginia in 1869. Josephine wed Frank Joy at the turn of the century and moved with him to San Diego. She began painting in 1935 and in 1936 was employed on the California Art Project, one of the federal art projects of the WPA. Her works were compared to those of Henri Rousseau. In 1942 she moved to her daughter's home in Peoria, IL where she remained until her demise in 1948. Exh: GGIE, 1939; So. Calif. Art Project, 1942.
