This biography from the Archives of AskART:
Marian Levy Jochimsen was born in Alaska on July 4, 1894.  In 1907 Marion Levy moved from Juneau to San Francisco where she attended high school and studied at the Institute of Art under Frank Van Sloun.  She then continued her studies in Paris at Académie Scandinave.  About 1913 she married one of her father's friends, Achton Jochimsen, a whaler.  During the 1920s she lived in NYC where she was a portrait artist, and during the 1940s and 1950s she worked as a commercial artist for Fox Films and several magazines.  After two years in Mexico and Santa Fe, NM, she returned to San Francisco in 1960 to teach art  at San Francisco State College.  In 1968 she retired to Santa Cruz, CA and lived there until her death on Jan. 17, 1996.
