This biography from the Archives of AskART:
The following, submitted January 2005, is from the artist.

Pauline Jacobson had been painting in watercolor for over 30 years. She specializes in marine life and tropical subjects, and creates some non-tropical art as well. She also loves photography, andlikes to combine the two mediums, painting and photography, to blur the boundary between them. With alternative photographic and printing processes utilizing Polaroid films, she makes and hand paints her own "original" prints.

Jacobson was born in 1949 in Port Arthur, Texas. Growing up on the Texas coast, she spent a lot of time at the beach, fishing with her father, and grew to love the ocean and seashore. She graduated in 1972 from Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas with a Bachelor of Science degree in Fine Art. Jacobson also minored in biology and hoped to find a career that included both art and science. In 1973, she moved to Austin, taking a job with the State of Texas, and received training in cartography.

For supplemental income, Jacobson spent evenings and weekends doing freelance graphic design for local businesses, including the fledgling Austin music industry, where she had the opportunity to create and publish music concert posters for local venues, including Willie Nelson's Austin Opry House. Several of these posters are now in the permanent collection of the University of Texas Center for American History in Austin.

In 1983, Jacobson founded Jacobson Associates, Inc. to provide cartography and graphic design services to businesses in Austin and the surrounding area. That same year, she married Julian "Kent" Jacobson. She and Kent spent their honeymoon in Cozumel, Mexico snorkeling and observing the colorful marine life of a tropical coral reef.

In 1987, she joined Tobin International, Ltd., and participated in the creation of a computerized map of the original Texas land survey. During her 14 years with Tobin, she spent her time on weekends painting watercolors, and joined Austin's Waterloo Watercolor Group. She also worked to develop her photographic skills and build a large collection of photographic images, mostly of marine life and tropical subjects.

After becoming certified to scuba dive in 1994, she took up underwater photography. She had taken thousands of photos of marine life which provide endless inspiration for her paintings. She is now a master diver and participates in frequent dive expeditions to study and photograph marine life. In 2001, Jacobson left her job at Tobin to become a full-time artist, photographer and webmaster.
