| Ralph Wilbur Nathan Johnstone was born in Illinois on July 26, 1911. Johnstone studied at the Art Insitute of Chicago while a resident of Cicero, Illinois. By the 1940s he had moved to southern California and was living in Hermosa Beach. He died in Los Angeles on October 3, 1985.
