This biography from the Archives of AskART:
Richard Jerzy was a well-known watercolor artist in the Detroit, Michigan area.  His signature works were figures and still lives, and many famous Michigan families are collectors.

"He was probably the most promising, successful, exciting artist in the state of Michigan," said Miriam Parel, a fellow artist and friend for more than 30 years. "(We had) the most unique friendship. I will probably never replace it again in my life."

He grew up on Detroit's east side and developed an interest in painting as a teenager.  He attended Detroit's Center for Creative Studies.  The fine arts institution later hired him as a painting professor, a position he held for about 30 years.  Many of his paintings were floral pieces and he used his garden as his inspiration.

Mr. Jerzy's final show in 2002 at the Design Center in Troy, was his finest ever, family members said.  He sold out his 36 paintings in the four-day art show. He also has sold pieces to the Ford family and the Ilitches.
