| | Born in England on March 4, 1873, the son of artist William S. Jewett. The younger Jewett grew up in California and was educated at UC Berkeley where he was a staff artist on the Blue and Gold. Upon graduation in 1894, he enrolled at the Mark Hopkins Art Institute. He then left for Paris and entered Académie Julian. Except for visits back to the U.S., he remained in France until his death on March 26, 1926.
