Augustus F. Kenderdine was born near Blackpool, Lancashire, England, and received his first painting lessons from his godfather, Augustus Lafosse, at the Manchester School of Art. He subsequently studied at the Academie Julian under Jules Lefevre and returned to England where he opened an art shop and studio in Blackpool. He became known as a portraitist as well as a landscape painter and exhibited at the Paris Salon and the Royal Academy in 1901.
