This biography from the Archives of AskART:
Caleb Larson Krantz was born in Iowa on June 29, 1873. Krantz was a painter, picture framer, and chalk talk artist on the Chautauqua, Lyceum, and various Church platforms. Spending most of his life in Iowa, he lived in Madrid, Iowa for an extended period of time. In 1910 he was living in Rock Island, Illinois. By the 1920's and 30's he had settled in Gardner, Iowa.

Krantz studied at the Bethany School of Art in Kansas, the Augustana School of Art, the Zanerian Art College, and the Art Institute of Chicago. He studied under Birger Sandzen, E. Holmes, and Olof Grafstrom. He was a member of the Swedish-American Art association in Chicago, and the American Institute of Swedish Arts in Minneapolis.

Krantz exhibited his work at the Iowa State Fair, in Minneapolis, the Beards Art Gallery, and the American Institute of Swedish Arts, Literature & Science, and at Marshall Field's in Chicago. His works are in the permanent collection of the American Institute of Swedish Art.

Caleb Krantz died in Iowa in March 1963.
